Soft maple, graphite enamel, commemorative baseball
14”x12”x3”, 2023

In this work I have recreated a fossilized footprint from present-day Tanzania. Scientists speculate that the footprint was made 6,000-19,000 years ago, most likely by a woman traveling with other women. Tanzania was colonized by Germany 1885-1919; at the time Germany referred to the region as a protectorate. A commemorative baseball rests on the recreated fossil. It features an image of Lincoln reading to his son, Tad.
